Word Memory Game

Word Memory is an Android word recognition app for novice readers.

Illustration and installation

Word Memory uses a column-based menu for making selections. On the one hand, the alphabetical order is practiced and, on the other hand, the distinctive letters are highlighted on a light green background by additional spacing. Touching this area or the area on the left that contains the beginning of the word cancels a selection. The ending of a word on a light blue background switches to the next menu if the word is still incomplete. An incomplete word ends with "…".

Word Memory is an app for Android tablets and mobile phones. The application is multilingual. In the start menu, which can be reached with the button at the top left, the language can be changed with the symbol, which is similar to an open book. The empty button (a space) shows the capital letters. In order to avoid difficulties for beginners, the vocabulary is completely without capital letters. This web server is (still) contacted when the language changes, in order to obtain a useful sequence for sorting character strings. This menu system, called Taipudex, works well with alphabetical spellings, but not readily with glyphs. The Japanese and Chinese sides therefore use phonetic transcription.

Interested developers without an Android device can use the Tcl script archive and undroidwish (Linux / Windows). Translate.google.com was very helpful for translating. The result is definitely not error-free due to manual insertion and adjustment.
